Ever since military airplanes began flying, there has been a need to safely bring them to a controlled stop if any malfunctions or emergencies should arise.Aircraft Emergency Arresting Systems nylon webbing is used to stop military aircraft as a last resort when pilots are unable to, or are having difficulties bringing an aircraft to stop on their own.
The barricade is an emergency recovery system used only when a normal (pendant) arrestment cannot be made. The barricade is normally in a stowed condition and rigged only when required. To rig a barricade, it is stretched across the flight deck between stanchions, which are raised from the flight deck.

Aircraft arresting barrier webbing consists of upper and lower horizontal loading straps joined to each other at the ends. Five vertical engaging straps, spaced 20 feet (6.1 m) apart, are connected to each upper and lower load strap. An item consisting of nylon webbing, bundled together, to be suspended across the landing area to absorb kinetic energy and produce an emergency arrestment of the aircraft.
Aircraft arresting barrier webbing is raised to a height of approximately 20 feet. The barricade webbing engages the wings of the landing aircraft, wherein energy is transmitted from the barricade webbing through the purchase cable to the arresting engine. Following a barricade arrestment, the webbing and deck cables are discarded and the stanchions are lowered back into their recessed slots.
Aircraft arresting barrier webbing highlights:
- Minimized risk for net entanglement of canopy for safe escape for the pilot
- Manufactured from soft materials to guarantee minimum damage to the engaging aircraft
- Design minimizes point load on the air frame
- Re-usable and repairable at the airbase
- Long expected service life giving low life cycle cost
We have heavy duty weaving machines to produce arresting barrier webbing, contact us for development and procurement.
